Is this too short?
Not for a toddler. Two minutes with joining in is about right, and short enough to read again immediately, which is what they will ask for.
How should I read it?
Big deep voice for the big dog, small squeaky one for the little dog. Children work out the pattern fast and start doing the little one themselves.
Can we act it out?
Yes, and it works well — run, jump, dig and lie down. It becomes a movement game rather than a story.
