Story Starter Cards
Every card is an opening rather than a topic, which is the difference between a child who says "I do not know what to write" and one who is already talking. Good spoken as well as written.
Before you print: Print and cut out. Telling the story out loud counts every bit as much as writing it.

Start here. Then keep going.
Name
- The door had never been open before
- Then the cat spoke
- It was raining, but only in our garden
- The parcel was ticking
- Nobody else could see it
- The map was wrong
- It followed us home
- The lights went out at exactly eight
- I found a key in my shoe
- The tree was hollow
- Everybody had vanished
- The last one was still warm
Cut along the dotted lines. Fold none of them.
